Tom's Ministry Passion and Bio
Ministry Passion
At this point in my life, I believe it would serve me well to echo the words written by Peter in his second letter to the church. “…give diligence to make your calling sure; for if you do these things you shall never fall: for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up, by putting you in remembrance: … (1 peter 1:10-13). Let me explain:
Many of us in the family of God, have read in His Word how we should live our lives to bring glory to Him. Trouble is, over the years( in my humble opinion ) the church has come to depend more on the traditions of men, than on the perfect and holy Word of God to be our guide. To quote the words of author Jim Berg,
“..the most important task we have is to prepare each other for the most important day of our life: the day we have to stand before Christ Himself and give account of our every word and deed, and how we made use of our time”.
We need to be always encouraging each other in our faith. We need to stir each other up to be accountable not just to each other, but more importantly reminding each other that we are going to be held accountable by a perfect and holy God. I know that we are not perfect…because of sin. But since Christ paid the penalty for those sins for you and me, and if we have placed our trust in the work that He did through the cross, we should be striving to be holy, as He has commanded us. Striving to promote unity in the church body, rather than division. Striving to let the world know that judgment is coming for those who reject God and the redeeming work of Christ on the cross for their salvation. Always reminding each other of the joy, peace, and rest we can have in Him.
My passion : to not be negligent to remind you, always, even though you know these things.
About Tom
I’ll try to keep a long story short. Raised by Christian parents, (what a blessing! ) I was brought up in the church family. I had made a “profession” of faith at about the age of 12. That turned out to be just that ..a profession of faith, but not a possession of faith. My teenage years found me anywhere but associating with God’s people. I started working at the age of 13. Met my wife of over 30 years through my work at a service station at the age of 19. We decided that we needed to start going back to church, and as a result, she accepted Christ as Savior in 1973. My commitment to the U.S. Marine Corps brought us to North Carolina, where we joined with a local church. We were very “involved” in the church. Personally, I was involved in Teaching, Visitation, Bus Ministry, Choir, etc.. going through all of the motions, thinking surely all of the things I was doing would warrant my being accepted by God. On May 11, 1977, God was gracious enough to help me understand the truth of Eph 2:8-9, during a prayer meeting for an upcoming revival meeting. That night I asked for forgiveness based upon the punishment Christ withstood in my place for MY sins. And now knowing that He is truly alive and as promised has given His spirit to dwell within me to always remind me that I am His, I can’t not serve Him. It’s God Himself Who gives knowledge to those who truly seek Him.
I am humbled and honored to be blessed enough to be allowed to be included in a part of the family of God, who have a desire to seek Him in the spirit of unity, and to learn of His ways, instead of the ways of the traditions of men.
